Explore Career Options

When you begin searching for a job, you need to know what skills and assets you can offer to a potential employer.

  • Evaluate your skills and determine your strengths.
  • Visit one of Capital Area Michigan Works! American Job Centers and use the O*NET Career Exploration Tools to take a computerized interest profile. It will help tell you which careers may be right for you.
  • Explore the Occupational Outlook Handbook online to learn more about occupations of interest and what skills and education you need to compete.
  • If the program is eligible, meet with a CAMW! career coach at an American Job Center to make an educational and employment plan.

Registered Apprenticeships

Registered apprenticeship programs are a vital tool for developing a skilled workforce. Apprenticeship programs consist of a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Workers earn a full-time wage with benefits while participating in this form of work-based learning. To learn about apprenticeships in Michigan, visit the Labor and Economic Opportunity Registered Apprenticeships website, and to search for opportunities, visit the Apprenticeship Job Finder. Contact Jay LaNew, Apprenticeship/Business Services Officer, at 517-492-5511 for more information.
